Finding Happiness In Your Finances

What makes you happy? No, what truly makes you happy? The definition of happiness can be generalized in so many ways. But when money is involved, sometimes it is hard to pinpoint the object of happiness amidst the fog of many things we think we enjoy.

Some people say, “Money doesn’t buy you happiness,” while others argue, “Neither does being broke.”  Our guest for this episode of The His & Her Money Show, Garrett Philbin, thinks both money and happiness could be thought of from a different point of view. Find out why Garrett left his amazing job in order to live a life that truly makes him happy, both emotionally and financially.

You have to know what you really want and not live somebody else’s dream.

Garrett started off with a job that many people may consider remarkable, but to him, it made him neglect many of the things he enjoyed most. Garrett went on a “work/road trip” journey to reconnect with what he perceived would make him happy. Ultimately, Garrett’s road trip helped him discover that he could find true happiness from wherever he is and with what he already has.

Throughout his journey, Garrett discovered that there is a common thread of unhappiness going on in America, despite the advantages of our modern times. Garrett discovered that it is important for people to discern what really matters to them, within places and things where they find enjoyable. It is when people find that specific thing that makes them truly happy that they focus on finding it. This way, we avoid spending more money on things that don’t really matter much.

Garrett spends more of his time helping people build awareness and accountability for their finances and figure out what really matters to them, and figure out how to make a difference with social causes and other causes that you care about. You can read about his journey with entrepreneurship and money on his blog, along with 7 ways to make your money matter.
