Welcome to His and Her Money, we’re glad that you chose to stop by and check out our blog. You may be wondering what this whole His and Her Money concept is all about.
I guess you can call it a journey…more like a mission actually, well maybe more like a journey and a mission. We are on a journey marching towards financial independence. Simultaneously, as we embark on this journey we feel it is our mission to take as many people on this journey with as we possibly can.
Our plan to accomplish this mission is quite simple, we are just going to put our business out here in the street and let everyone learn from it. It won’t be just the victories that we share with you all but the defeats as well. This is important because we have learned valuable lessons from both our wins and our losses over our eight years of marriage. Our hope is that you’ll gain useful insight that will help you establish a firm financial footing in your owns lives.
It’s not all about the Benjamin’s though, we have a family too. We have a few kids, three to be exact. Emmanuel is our oldest, he’s a chip off the old block and he’s super protective over his younger sisters. Brinkley is the princess but don’t get on her bad side because, she floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee. Grace is the baby and she knows it. She has a smile that will melt a glacier. They’re small and we are still learning this whole parenting thing, but we are enjoying every second of it. That’s where we get our tagline from , “Managing, Money, Marriage and Everything in Between”. We’re going to let you know our story and all the things that we’ve learned up to this point. It won’t be a perfect story because we are not perfect people. We are no different than you are and we plan to learn from you just as much as we plan to share with you.
We won’t stop there though because as we progress forward, we want you to come along for the ride with us. We’ve been in debt, lots of debt…………. TWICE! We started our marriage off weighed down with various types of debt including car loans, signature bank loans, payday loans, credit card debt to name a few. To date we have totally eliminated every ounce of consumer debt and are DEBT FREE! There was nothing easy or magically about the process. It took a great deal of hard work and dedication. It was hard work because in our eyes it was a huge amount of debt that was going to take time and perseverance to make it through.
It took a great deal of dedication because of the fact that I, Talaat was the one who brought every penny of debt into our marriage. My wife has always been wise with her money so much so that she went and graduated from college with a degree in Finance and spent seven years working in the financial services sector. On the other hand I was completely reckless with my money as a young man and accumulated lots of toys and LOTS of debt in the process.
I, Tai had to make a conscious decision to either love my husband WITH his debt and help him dig through it or walk away. By God’s grace I chose to love him for better or worse and partner with him in life which included turning his debt into OUR debt. We put in a ton of work together to climb out the pit of debt and get ourselves on solid footing financially. It is our goal to show you how we did it and encourage you to realize that you can do it too.
Now that we have paid off all of our consumer debt, the only thing left is our big ‘ole mortgage. We’ve decided that we’re not going to be the average family and take 30 years to pay off our house. We have decided that we are going to pay off our house, and we’re going to do it NOW. Debt is a four letter word in our household and we stay as far away from it as possible. As we journey towards paying off our mortgage we plan to keep you updated on our progress and the steps that we are taking to accomplish our goal. We hope to inspire others to realize that financially independence is real and attainable. We have lived it and are enjoying the journey. We invite you to tag along with us. Welcome aboard!
