Consistently creating and sticking to a budget can be a challenge for a couple especially when kids are involved. Habits of comfort are hard to break, and engaging our children to make financial adjustments can be heartbreaking.
But on this episode of The His & Her Money Show, our guests Angela and Jeff talk to us about their journey of finding the right strategy, personalizing it, implementing it to the whole family—and paying $58,704.10 of debt off in just 2 years and 2 weeks!
Angela and Jeff started off realizing that they were making a good income but yet they were unable to make the minimum payments to their creditors. Although they had tried various financial strategies before, their old spending habits would always creep back in and set them back. Discovering Dave Ramsey’s “Baby Steps” allowed Jeff and Angela to find a more comfortable and achievable method, and customized to work more for them.
Jeff and Angela explain how their kids got involved with the spending cuts without making them social outcasts. Over time, the kids adopted Jeff and Angela’s new habits with money, and still were able to participate in the activities that they loved to do. The whole family participated to achieve the goal of getting a debt-free life, under a powerful phrase: “It’s not in the budget.”
