How Candice’s Community Motivated Her To Debt Freedom

Following one’s passion is to attain happiness. Some of us are afraid of getting out of their comfort zone and are just content with their current status quo without injecting effort to pursue their dreams. The road of your journey might be rough sometimes, but everything has a purpose.

There are tons of opportunities out there as long as you are willing to take the first step to change, grab chances, utilize your ability and skills, and stay open to learning and updating yourself.

On today’s episode of The His & Her Money Show, a super inspirational story is shared! We’ve got an entrepreneur and personal finance blogger, Candice Marie, who used her community to help become motivated to debt freedom.

As a result, she paid off her $47,000 student loan and credit card debts in just 6 years. On her blog, Young Yet Wise, she helps Millennials realistically reach their money goals while still enjoying life.

For a long time, Candice just went with the flow and didn’t pay attention to her debts until she became inspired by stories of debt-free bloggers and realized that it’s entirely possible to achieve financial freedom. So, she shifted gears from investing to focusing on getting rid of debt.

As a writer and a blogger, she created a Debt Free Challenge with her audience that motivated her to pay off her debts quickly by starting with the smallest amount. Being honest and open to financial situations helps her focus and not think about it as a sacrifice.

Candice thinks it’s just temporary and not going to be forever. She now tries to keep her expenses as low as possible especially in the area of transportation, rent, and food, and looks for ways to earn extra money aside from a 9-5 job.

In 2007, while on vacation, she received a notification that she had lost her job. She is thankful it happened because she had always had a dream of working for herself, but the idea was a bit scary in a time of negative events.  But Candice is not the type to give up; she has always seen herself as debt-free.

She decided to do some side hustling and use her skills in graphic design to start a freelance business. It offers her the opportunity of simultaneously learning and growing. After all the bumps in the road, the work, and struggles, she was able to reach her goal of paying off her last debt!
