How Maria Fought Unemployment to Pay Off $88,000 of Debt

The idea of cuddling debts forever feels like drowning in water such that you cannot breathe. Later you’ll realize that you need to get rid of this burden; but first, one thing will come to mind: how can I do this? Is it really possible to finally achieve financial independence after all these years?

On today’s episode of The His & Her Money Show, you will be inspired to follow Maria Rosa’s footsteps to debt freedom. She is a “Modern Budget Curl”, ex-military, and currently does financial coaching. Maria shares her awesome debt-free story, her battles from unemployment and mental health struggle to finally pay off $88,000 of debt in only two years!

I’m dreaming dreams that I never thought possible.

Maria thought she would have all her debts forever. They consisted of credit cards, car payments, and student loans. Then, she realized she had to get out of it. She put herself in a “future mindset” instead of succumbing to instinct gratification.

She stopped spending money on things that didn’t matter and started to reevaluate everything before buying it. It was hard for her at first because she was used to spending money. Maria did side-hustling like babysitting, etc. and understood that it was just a temporary sacrifice that was going to pay off in the future.

However, Maria also experienced mental health struggles during her military time. She suffered from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), sadness, and being disturbed by money thoughts. It was the toughest part of her debt freedom journey. She fought hard while away from family and friends but luckily found relief from an online community.

It is a debt-free community that inspired and motivated her to stay on track and get to her goals. The most awaited moment finally came. She couldn’t believe she made her last payment. It felt like floating on cloud 9, surreal and emotional. Now, she feels free, liberated, and amazing. She now believes that anything is possible!
