Why This Couple Intentionally Took One Year Off Of Work

Giving, faith, and obedience go hand in hand. Did you know that God has a plan for us to win with money? He is interested in every detail of our lives and wants us to be good stewards with the provision He gives us. There are many principles in the Bible, that when followed, will help us with our journey.

On today’s episode of The His & Her Money Show, Bob and Linda Lotich tells us how they help other people to get out of debt using Biblical principles. When Bob and Linda got married, they both brought some personal debt into the marriage. Bob, being more of the numbers person in the marriage, helped Linda and together they started their journey to debt freedom.

Uncomfortable Beginnings

They started with $46,000 in consumer debt. After tightening their belts and being uncomfortable for a while, they paid it off in full. Bob was amazed at his wife. Linda started living on about 10% of her disposable income because she kept her eye on their goal to become debt-free.

They had a revelation that when they give, the money might not show in their bank account, but it is a seed that has been planted of which they will harvest later. This is in accordance with  Ecclesiastes 11:1 which states, “Cast your bread upon the waters, for you will find it after many days”.

Less Became More

Bob is an entrepreneur with an online business which gives him a little more flexibility. He designed his career to not run his life. Before he started his business, he was paralyzed with fear, but then he just started something that he was interested in. At the time he was reading Proverbs and realized that Proverbs has a lot to say about money. And so he started writing about finances and the Bible.

Bob would take a month sabbatical every year to set goals and sit with the Lord to find out what is on His heart. But in 2017 Bob felt the Lord was leading him to take the whole year as a sabbatical.

Bob suggests to listeners that are employees to take the first step by resting one day a week. This is to build faith by showing God that you trust Him enough that even if you don’t work that day, you know that He will provide. Even if you have to work 7 days a week, take an evening or a few hours and dedicate it to resting in Him.

Linda has been retired since 2010 which means she does not make money outside of the home. But what she does, and this is imperative for her husband’s success, is to run her household well. She understands her strength is to be a great supporter of her husband.

The Challenge

Bob and Linda give 37% of their income. God challenged Bob to give his age. They give 10% to the local church and 15 different charities that they support on a regular basis, or as the Lord leads them to give.

As is written in Luke 6:38 “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you”.
