How To Win College Scholarships

Getting into college is one of the most common dreams and probably the hardest one to attain for those who can’t afford to pursue it. Many believe that having a college diploma is the key to a better future, allowing you to choose your desired jobs and grab opportunities when they cross your path. Educational attainment plays a major role in success. Some seize the chance of having a student loan just to climb the corporate ladder. Putting yourself in debts is not the solution; searching and applying for scholarships is the best option!

On today’s episode of The His & Her Money Show, we’re thankful to have Pam Andrews, a College Admissions Coach and Scholarship Strategist, known as the “Scholarship Shark”. She is the creator of the In Pursuit of College board game and helps high school students get into their dream colleges and secure scholarships to pay for it. Check her out as she shares super helpful tips and a host of information that is going to help many!

Pam helped her son win over $700,000 in scholarship money that paid for his undergraduate and graduate education and has helped her clients also attain scholarships. She believes there are two “yeses”. The “yes” when you got in and the “yes” that this not going to break the bank. She counsels families regarding the process, making it much easier and less stressful to reach their college goals.

In addition, Pam insists that there’s no such thing as “early” in when to begin searching for scholarships. “It’s never too early,” she affirms. You should apply and be prepared. Students should focus on their passion and do pre-tests and assessments. Parents should think ahead and evaluate their income and assets to handle the financial burden. It’s important for parents to get involved in the process and make sure the goal actually happens.

Pam trained her kids at a young age to think about money and the way it works, how we make it, how we keep it early on, and how to get the money mindset shift, especially when it comes to college. In searching and applying for scholarships, don’t be afraid of rejection. There is so much opportunity out there, and even adults have chances. “The more you do it, and the more you put yourself out there, the easier it gets.”
